Residents blast police drug-raid methods

Kalamazoo city commissioners called Monday for an investigation into law-enforcement tactics after several residents of the Hays Park Avenue neighborhood complained about property damage during police drug raids and searches.
Residents of Hays Park, which is east of Portage Street in east-central Kalamazoo, say the Kalamazoo Valley Enforcement Team is using "Gestapo" and "militaristic" methods when making busts in their neighborhood.
Several Hays Park residents said a June 30 KVET raid in which flash grenades were launched, window glass smashed and the home "trashed" is just one of several excessive techniques waged by the anti-drug team.
