Thousands Gather in Washington for Antiwar Rally

New York Times

WASHINGTON, Sept. 24 - Thousands of protesters from around the country poured onto the lawns south of the White House on Saturday to demonstrate their opposition to the war in Iraq, pointedly directing their anger at President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney.

A sea of anti-Bush signs and banners flashed back at a long succession of speakers, who sharply rebuked the administration for continuing a war that has cost the lives of nearly 2,000 Americans and as many as 20,000 Iraqis. Similar rallies were held in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle and other cities in the United States and abroad.

  • We need more statistics. For example, if the same 2000 soldiers who died in Iraq had stayed at home, how many, statistically, would have been killed by drunk drivers? If the same 2000 soldiers who died in Iraq had stayed at home, how many would have died in hurricane Katrina? If the same 2000 soldiers who died in Iraq had stayed at home, how many would have been murdered? (for example-there are about 500 murders a year in the city of Los Angeles), if the same 2000 soldiers who died in Iraq had stayed at home, how many would have died in a hunting accident, probably shot by another hunter who thought they were shooting at a deer or bear?, If the same 2000 soldiers who died in Iraq had stayed at home, how many, statistically, would have died in a skiing accident by losing control and skiing into a tree and cracking their skull? etc., Of course, if they all stayed home and smoked pot, statistically, how many of them would be in jail getting fucked up the ass?
