Drug War Propaganda in Alabama Schools
"28 percent of eighth graders are regular huffers"
"one in five meth labs blow up"
"Since meth comes through the skin, it causes sores that meth addicts will eat if they can't get any other source of the drug."
Why do we pay government workers to lie to our children?

Dear Loretta,
I've just found your blog, and I like it. You asked a great question, and I'd like to try for an answer. First off, I'm on 'our side.' I sometimes see a man about a dog, if you know what I mean. But I worry about extremes. I hate the drug war, but I am scared of actual legalization. I think decriminalization is what I support. The difference is key because if something is actually legal, any huge company can sell that thing. I know that companies would love to sell something that currently creates billions in revenue while still illegal. But companies with a profit margin to consider aren't a good group to have selling (and marketing) drugs. Even relatively harmless pot-type drugs. Picture the marketing campaigns they would do. Picture modern marketing techniques. I live in Chicago, and I've seen a rise in what they call 'viral' marketing techniques. These involve going to places like bars and being nice and friendly. The rep might be promoting a camera-cell phone. But the way they do it is by buying people drinks and lettin them play with the phone. Viral marketing. You think you met a person with sucha device, never realizing that someone was paid to make you try the thing. I'm not sure the FCC would let a pot company advertise on TV, but you can't regulate viral marketing. So the misguided reason that people have for lying to kids needs to change, but the reason they're lying has a nugget of truth in there somewhere. Once again, thanks for keeping the page going.
