Former Albuquerque jail guard gets probation in prisoner beatings
ALBUQUERQUE (AP) - A judge has given a year’s probation to a former Albuquerque jail officer indicted in the beating of three prisoners.
Forty-eight-year-old Lex Pope pleaded guilty Thursday to felony attempted aggravated battery and conspiracy to commit aggravated battery. He was then sentenced by state District Judge Pat Murdoch in Albuquerque.
Pope and three other Bernalillo County Metropolitan Detention Center officers were indicted in the case.
They were accused of beating three Valencia County prisoners who’d been transferred to the Metropolitan Detention Center last February 24th.
The other three officers also were sentenced to a year of probation.
