Former deputy gets 6 years in Campbell Co. excessive force case

July 12, 2005

KNOXVILLE (WATE) -- A former Campbell County deputy who pleaded guilty to beating a drug dealer was sentenced Tuesday to six years in federal prison.

Joshua Monday learned his sentence Tuesday afternoon.

The case stems from the July 2004 beating and torture of Lester Eugene Siler.

The lawman was one of five former deputies serving an arrest warrant on Siler.

Siler ran when officers arrived but was caught.

According to court documents, Siler was beaten, pushed into an overflowing toilet, hooked to a battery charger and hit with a gun. The officers wanted Siler to sign a consent form to search his home for drugs.

Siler's wife secretly recorded the incident before she was ordered to leave their home by the deputies.
