PA Police Chief Allegedly Stole Pot
Associated Press
AUSTIN, PA-October 12, 2005 - The police chief of the Potter County borough of Austin has resigned and been charged with taking two pounds of marijuana from the department, then falsely reporting it stolen.
Twenty-six-year-old Shawn Foringer of Austin had been suspended from his job Monday.
According to the criminal complaint, Foringer had reported to state police last week that the marijuana was taken during a burglary. Authorities say the burglary never happened.
Foringer was held last night in the Potter County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail.
It is not clear how the police department obtained the marijuana.
Austin has a population of about 600 people.
