Whether you are in a classroom, driving your car or in your own home,
Big Brother is Watching You.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security is handing out infra-red devices to our local police departments like candy. They claim the devices are used to locate missing persons. What a noble cause.

In reality these devices are being used to illegaly search our homes in what the U.S. Supreme court has ruled to be a direct violation of the Fourth Amendment.

  • Just as the use of aircraft to spot outdoor cannabis grows from the air caused them to go indoors, the use of hand-held IR technology by police will cause the next step in the evolution of growlights operating at temperatures close to that of fluorescents. Betetr mousetraps lead to improved mice that become harder top catch. Don't we have anything better to use the taxpayer's money on?

  • Sorry, thumbs for fingers, today. But the point is clear: a more useless and pointless game couldn't be found than the DrugWar, and we actually pay people to play it with our tax dollars? 'Idiotic' doesn't begin to describe it...

I am old enough to recall the CETA programs the Feds had back in the 1970's; these were attempts by the Feds to prime an economic pump that was stuck shut thanks to a moribund economy. Their effectivenes came under constant attack by Republicans and those of the budding NeoConservative movement as being wastes of time and money, little more than make-work for the marginally employable. Ultimately, they were eliminated as soon as Reagan took power.

One could make the same argument, and for better reasons, to scrap the DrugWar, if only because it is funded primarily from taxpayer's dollars, produces no marketable goods (unless you consider slave labor to be so) and is thus a net drain on the economy...just as CETA was accused of being. Like I asked, don't we have better places to put the People's money?
