AMHERST - A raid on rooms in a high-rise dormitory at the University of Massachusetts resulted in four arrests and the seizure of more than 38 grams of cocaine yesterday.

UMass Deputy Police Chief Patrick Archbald, who has been with the department for 18 years, said the amount of cocaine seized was the largest he can remember.

Assistant District Attorney Michael A. Cahillane told Eastern Hampshire District Court Judge W. Michael Goggins that police had been investigating suspicions of drug dealing on the campus for nine months and had arranged three controlled buys of cocaine.

Five search warrants were executed yesterday at 5 a.m. by teams of police who found 38.7 grams of cocaine in a refrigerator in one room and a "factory of the operations" in another room, Cahillane said.
