EAST ALTON -- Dave and Judy’s B&R Tavern is closed for business, and police say it’s because drugs were being sold out there.

Police raided the bar at 325 W. St. Louis Ave. on Friday night, executing a search warrant. They arrested two men, and another is being sought.

Nearly a dozen police from East Alton and Wood River clothed in battle dress uniforms with black hoods and wielding rifles swarmed into the tavern in search of two men who police said have been selling substances containing cocaine for the past 18 months.

Before police left the station about 8:30 p.m., Isringhausen led the group in prayer.

The officers divided into two teams then rode the two blocks to the tavern in two pickup trucks.

As the officers converged on the bar, they called out, "Police, police, police."

"Where’s all the cocaine at?" Wells asked loudly.

"This is not a drug bar," a man in the bar yelled in reply.

Once police took control of the bar and arrested Barnes, they then took identification from each patron and ran checks on them. Before anyone was allowed to leave, they were searched and made to walk past Sgt. Jim Goeken of the Madison County Sheriff’s Department and his drug-sniffing dog, Rex.

Two arrests, no drugs found
