Court sentences youth prison guard for assaulting inmate

HONOLULU (AP) _ A youth prison guard was sentenced to 90 days in jail and five years probation for grabbing and twisting a teenage inmate's sexual organs.
State prosecutors had asked the court send Gilbert Hicks to jail for the maximum five years.
According prosecutors, the incident began when Hicks walked up to the 17-year-old ward last year and told him to ``grab my balls.''
When the inmate responded saying ``No, you grab mine,'' Hicks grabbed, squeezed and twisted them.
The inmate's testicles were so swollen 10 days later he had to go the hospital.
Circuit Court Judge Richard Pollack says Hicks took an important first step by apologizing for what he did.
State Deputy Attorney General Marcus Sierra says the jail sentence sends a message. But he's disappointed the sentence wasn't more severe.
