Aliceville may be Site of Next Federal Prison

President Bush's signature on a spending bill brings Alabama closer to getting a second federal prison. The prison proposed for Aliceville could bring 350 jobs and hold about 1,200 prisoners.
Another federal prison is located in Talladega.
Aliceville's economic development director Alan Harper said Bush has signed the 2006 Commerce, Justice and Science appropriations bill that includes a $15 million appropriation for the prison in Aliceville.
The money goes for site selection, site planning, environmental review and possibly land purchase.
It would require 250 to 400 acres and cost $100 million to build. Construction must be funded in future budgets.
Harper says that is "just a formality."
Construction could take three years. But there's no starting date.
