Former inmate sues jail
01/04/06
A former inmate of the Sumner County Jail has filed a lawsuit against the county, several employees at the jail and a nurse, alleging that her constitutional rights were violated when she was denied medical care for a broken arm.
The lawsuit was filed in the United States District Court, the Middle District of Tennessee, in the Nashville Division on Oct. 7, 2005 and the county was recently served.
Kim Settle is the plaintiff in the suit.
The suit claims Settle fell from her cell bunk and hit her head, knocking herself unconscious around the middle of October 2004. When she came to, she requested to see the jail nurse, who examined her and provided Tylenol for her head, the suit alleges.
No other examination or treatment was conducted and Settle went back to her cell, the suit alleges.
Settleās arm became swollen and painful and turned black and blue and she complained to several jail guards, who examined her discolored arm. But she was never taken to see a doctor and was never treated for her arm, the suit claims.
