Round Hill Drug Raid Worries Neighbors

Jan 04, 2006 -- Wearing camouflage uniforms, armed Loudoun Sheriff’s Office deputies stormed a Round Hill townhouse Tuesday night to execute a search warrant for a drug-related investigation.

The raid, which began with a house-shaking boom, frightened some neighbors on Devon Park Square, with some claiming that deputies cussed at them to get back inside as they peeked out doors and windows to see what all the commotion was about.

Loudoun Sheriff’s Office spokesman Kraig Troxell provided few details about the case. Troxell explained that the explosion was a “distraction device” that is used to frighten or surprise anyone inside a home.

“In situations such as last night, law enforcement commonly use these devices upon entering a residence and after it is deployed the SERT team members rapidly follow to help secure the scene taking advantage of the general disorientation of the suspects,” he said.
