COLUMBIA, S.C. - The South Carolina Supreme Court has reinstated the law license of a former Pickens County prosecutor who was found growing marijuana in his home.
Pickens County deputies arrested Robert Lee Newton Jr. in September 2003 and charged him with growing marijuana and with intent to distribute.
Newton was then placed on an interim suspension from the bar. He was later suspended for one year, retroactive to the date of his interim suspension.
Newton maintained the marijuana was for his personal use. The intent to distribute charge was later dropped, as was the marijuana manufacturing charge.
