Bessemer man shot in drug raid

BESSEMER, Ala. (AP) — A drug raid at a residence in Bessemer resulted in the shooting of a suspect. Police said it happened yesterday about 5:40 p.m. after a special response team attempted to serve a warrant at a house on First Avenue North.

Police said the officers knocked on the door, identified themselves and then entered the home. As the team made entry, the suspect fired shots at the officers who returned fire hitting the individual.

The suspect, whose name was withheld, was taken to U-A-B Hospital. No further information was released.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Department is investigating the incident.
