Thailand to reach out anti-drug efforts to neighboring countries

BANGKOK, March 8 (Xinhuanet) -- Thailand would reach out its efforts against illegal drugs to neighboring countries so as to permanently eliminated drugs from the kingdom, said the Deputy Prime Minister Chavalit Yongchaiyudh.

"The national center for combating drugs will reach out to neighboring countries to help suppress the production bases outside Thailand, because those inside the country have already been eradicated," the retiring deputy prime minister was quoted by Tuesday's Bangkok Post as saying.

He forecast that the kingdom could be totally free of illegal drugs with the anti-drug efforts extended to neighboring countries.

The Thai government has carried out aggressive campaigns against drug in the past two years, during which large amount were seized and a lot of suspected drug traffickers killed.
