DANVILLE, Va. A Danville doctor charged with buying guns for her husband so he could sell them for crack cocaine will spend five years in prison.
Deborah Barr-Hairston, a doctor at a family practice in Caswell, North Carolina was sentenced today. She was also fined 5-thousand dollars and stripped of her license to practice medicine.
In May a federal jury convicted 39-year-old Barr-Hairston on multiple counts stemming from the unlawful purchasing of firearms, including eight counts of providing firearms to a person who is an unlawful user of a controlled substance.
Her husband -- Jesse Hairston -- is a convicted felon and therefore not allowed to have a gun. He had testified that his wife knowingly bought guns on his behalf, so that he could exchange them for crack cocaine.
