More Dogs Shot

By Seth Burkett
The Decatur Daily, AL

Three guard dogs didn't prevent the arrests of five people during a search of an alleged drug house Tuesday night in which police shot and killed two of the dogs.

The full-grown pit bulls attacked police executing a search warrant at 2403 Kelly Ave. S.W., Apartment 2, prompting officers to use deadly force when conventional methods of subduing the animals failed, said Sgt. Faron White of the Decatur police Organized Crime Unit.

Upon entering the house shortly after 9 p.m., police first attempted to scare the dogs with fire extinguishers, White said.

"Usually the fire extinguisher does its job, they run off and hide somewhere, and animal control comes and gets them," he said.

"In this particular case, the fire extinguisher didn't do any good."
