Suspension lifted on deputy accused of eating inmate's candy

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa One of four deputies in Linn County is off the hook for allegedly eating an inmate's candy.

Tracy Young had his suspension lifted this week, but the other three are still appealing their punishments to the Civil Service Commission.

The commission heard three hours of testimony yesterday detailing how deputies allegedly ate candy an inmate bought from the jail commissary.

The inmate was released, but did not take the candy with him. When he called the jail asking for his candy, jail officials discovered that most of it was gone.

One of the deputies says it is common for them to eat candy left behind by inmates.

But this is the first time someone actually came back looking for it.

The commission has not made a decision on the suspensions.
