JACKSONVILLE - About 200 marchers chanting, "no justice, no peace," made their way through downtown Saturday to protest police brutality and the deaths of two black men who died last month in police custody.
"We will get justice; the walls of police brutality are coming down," said Shanika Carter, daughter of Sammie Lee Evans, 49, who died from a broken neck as police attempted to arrest him Dec. 3 for drinking outside his home.
As the rally was going on, dozens of fans heading to the Gator Bowl between West Virginia and Florida State walked by with beers and drinks in their hands and were ignored by police officers watching the rally. No one was arrested.
