Police nab Plainfield marijuana grower
05/04/06
BARRE – A binocular-wielding citizen has helped police bust a marijuana growing operation in Plainfield.
David Dzendran, 56, pleaded not guilty Wednesday to felony counts of marijuana possession and cultivation. The charges stem from a Tuesday night search of the defendant's Plainfield apartment, where state police discovered more than 4 pounds of processed marijuana and about 20 young plants.
State police received a tip from a concerned citizen saying he'd noticed plants growing in Dzendran's Main Street apartment. The citizen used binoculars to get a better look and identified the plants as marijuana.
Police used that information to obtain a search warrant and later found numerous caches of marijuana and cash in Dzendran's apartment. Dzendran's has two previous felony convictions, including a conviction on marijuana possession.
